چکیده
Chromium deposits rank among the most widespread metal coatings for functional and decorative purposes. However, electrodeposition from Cr(VI) aqueous solution, which is industrial process currently used to achieve thin chromium deposits, presents several environmental issues, urging development of alternative solutions. In this study, aims compare aesthetical properties coatings, 800 nm thick layers were deposited directly onto copper substrates by means magnetron sputtering (MS) direct current (ED). The obtained characterized regarding their thickness, morphology, color index, chemical composition, corrosion resistance viewpoints. With respect electroplated samples, constitute benchmark, sputtered ones appeared be darker but showed a pleasing reflective appearance superior thickness homogeneity, as well absence voids macrocracks, evidenced scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigation. Regarding anticorrosion performances layers, electrochemical standard salt spray test (NSS test) carried out at room temperature in 3.5% NaCl similar, if not better, results coatings. On whole, data displayed here demonstrates suitability technology use an industrially feasible finishing both aesthetic mild-condition

A Transmission Electron-Microscopy Study of RF-Magnetron-Sputtered and DC-Magnetron-Sputtered Thin-Film Chromium and Chromium Platinum Coatings
Microstructural features of sputtered chromium and chromium-50 wt. % platinum thin films on carbon substrates are presented. Films produced by rf sputtering and dc magnetron sputtering are compared using analytical electron microscopy techniques. All rf-sputtered films are uniform in chemistry and thickness and are amorphous. The chromium film became crystalline with a grain size ofless than 10...

Nanosized TiO2 particles were prepared by sol–gel method. The TiO2 particles were co-deposited with chromium using electrodeposition technique. In investigating of coating surfaces by scanning electron microscope (SEM), the results showed that the morphology of the coating surface was changed by adding TiO2 nanoparticles to the chromium coating. The corrosion behavior of the coatings was assess...
متن کاملCharacterization of Magnetron Sputtered Coatings by Pulsed Eddy Current Techniques
A method that uses induced pulsed eddy currents for characterization of thick magnetron sputtered Nb coatings on steel is presented in this paper. The objectives of this work are to develop a system for rapid quantitative nondestructive inspection of coatings as well as to determine the correlation between coating properties, such as density and purity, and eddy current measured resistivity of ...
متن کاملCorrosion behaviour of electrodeposited and sputtered Cr coatings and sputtered Ta coatings with α and β phases
The corrosion behaviour of αand β-Ta coatings was compared to that of Cr coatings produced by cylindrical magnetron sputtering as well as electrodeposition. For Ta coatings, the corrosion process was dominated by dissolution of the steel substrate through open pores, however, at the end of 5 days, coating degradation was not observed. In contrast, while open pores were not observed with the Cr ...
